New Script - Eden

FADE IN:

INT. LIVING ROOM

It is a room with black walls and curtains covering the windows making it hard to figure out the time of day. Inside the room there's an assortment of furniture including a black, leather sofa for three people facing a thin screened television that is hung on the wall and connected to a game console and a TV box, on the screen of the TV is a news report on a recent election. Beside the sofa is a black bean bag and a glass desk with a computer on it and some figurines from comics and TV shows. Near the television is a bookshelf with DVDs and video games on. On the walls there's a few posters of films and games including, The Matrix, Fight Club, Blade Runner, Fallout and Watch Dogs. There's a coffee table between the sofa and TV and on it is a laptop and a cup of tea on a coaster.

In the room there are three people, one is sat in the middle of the sofa cross legged and watching the news, one is sat on the bean bag drawing on a tablet, and the third is sitting at the desk typing on the computer. The one watching the news, ISSAC HOLLOW, is wearing a black shirt with a game logo on, a black hoodie, jeans and odd socks. The person drawing, ELIZA TURNER, is wearing a black dress with fishnet stockings and combat boots. The person sat at the computer, WINSTON PORTER, is wearing a jumper on top of a collared shirt with trousers and dress shoes and a lanyard with an ID attached.

ISSAC

(angrily)

This is bullshit!

Eliza looks up from her drawing, while Winston continues to type.

ELIZA

What're you angry about this time?

Issac pauses the TV on a picture of the recently elected president, and gestures to it.

ISSAC

These news stations are completely ignoring the controversy around him!

Without looking away from the computer screen, Winston decides to respond.

WINSTON

So what? We can't do anything about it.

ISSAC

I can't just sit around while people praise this imbecile.

ELIZA

People have seen the controversy and they don't care, Issac.

Issac taps his hand against his leg, and puts his fist over his mouth, thinking. Suddenly, when a thought hits him, he points his finger to Eliza.

ISSAC

Then, we should show them what they haven't seen.

ELIZA

(sarcastically)

How do you suggest we do that genius?

Issac pulls his laptop up onto his lap and has started typing.

ISSAC

Research.

Eliza rolls her eyes and keeps drawing, while Issac is now completely focused on his computer. He already has multiple tabs open and a word document for his notes. As Issac is typing his roommates carry on with their lives. Winston going to work and Eliza meeting friends and going out. They come back and have food sharing it out among them.

ELIZA

Are you still doing that? Don't you have better things to do?

ISSAC

Better things than exposing the president?

WINSTON

Like a job.

ISSAC

You want me to join you in working for a soulless corporation that doesn't care about it's workers? No thanks, mate.

WINSTON

Gotta pay rent somehow.

ELIZA

How do you even plan on spreading this? No one wants to read a twenty page document on why the president is a dick.

ISSAC

I'll think about that when I get to it...

ELIZA

What do you even have written?

Issac turns to show Eliza and Winston his laptop on a document labelled 'Fuck The President', they scroll through looking unimpressed and bored.

WINSTON

Most of this lacks any concrete proof and the rest no one cares about.

ELIZA

And it looks so boring.

ISSAC

The proof is all being covered up!

WINSTON

You sound like a crazy conspiracy theorist.

Dejected, Issac takes his laptop back and looks down at his screen to a picture of the president.

ISSAC

He's hiding something I can tell.

WINSTON

Look, Issac, you have a degree, you can get a good job with it. Ethical hacking can pay well.

ISSAC

But if this stuff I found is true...

ELIZA

No one will believe you.

ISSAC

(contemplative)

Not without proof...

Issac perks his head up and look at his friends.

WINSTON

I can tell what you're thinking, no you cannot hack the president of America.

Instantly Issac sinks back down and pouts looking over to a poster of Fight Club.

ISSAC

Why can't the world be like the movies?

ELIZA

Usually the president is a good guy in the movies. The bad guys are corporations and capitalism.

Issac sits back up straight, his face shocked ad slightly happy.

ISSAC

That's it!

His hands move around enthusiastically.

ISSAC (CONT'D)

Instead of the president, we should go after the corporations that back him!

Winston and Eliza share a look and then sigh.

ELIZA

It's an improvement.

WINSTON

More realistic...

Issac smiles and puts his laptop in his lap to type into the search engine, "MP Corporation", and then turns the laptop to show his friends.

ISSAC

I already know our target.

ELIZA

The tech company?

WINSTON

Doesn't the president have stock in their company?

ISSAC

Yes, and a few government officials have their tech, since the president promises it's security.

ELIZA

So, how're we going to go about doing this?

Issac explains his plan to his friends and they get started. Eliza works on her drawing tablet, while Issac and Winston work on the computers. Winston still needs to go to work in the day though, so he often leaves in the morning while everyone is still asleep and returns during the afternoon. Eliza shows the others a few of her designs and they say no to a few of them but then say yes to a design of a man in a black hoodie with a mask from a horror movie. Winston and Issac argue over their code a few times but Eliza splits them up when things get serious. They still take breaks for food but most of what they eat is take out from multiple places, while they eat they watch some TV shows on the television. When they fall asleep its usually in the middle of working on their project.

They manage to get someone who works for the company to fall for their phishing email trick installing malware into their devices. They celebrate and share some drinks among themselves. The mask Eliza used in the design is brought and they mess around with it a bit. Then they film a video with Issac wearing the mask and hoodie and talking to the camera. Eliza edits the video, distorting Issac's voice and cutting out the pauses and stuttering. Issac and Winston points at a few things on the screen saying to add details. When the editing is finished, they sit together to watch it and give each other high fives and celebrate.

They put the video onto a USB and Issac offers it to Winston.

ISSAC

Are you ready for the final boss?

Winston takes the USB and nods.

WINSTON

(nervously)

As ready as I'll ever be.

ELIZA

Good luck.

Winston puts the USB into his back pocket and leaves the apartment.

INT. NEWS STATION - DAY

Winston enters a modern looking building with walls of windows and a logo on the wall saying "ENB Studios", he walks past the reception desk where a smiling receptionist sits and scans his ID on the entrance way. The gate opens and he walks through.

He enters into a room of white desks sectioned off each other and he looks around for an empty desk. The room isn't very busy, and the people there are focusing on work. As he approaches a desk, one of his colleges, DUSTIN FIERCE, an approximately 30 year old man wearing a blue shirt and trousers, greets him.

DUSTIN

Hey man, I didn't see you at the company party last week.

Winston tries to seem interested in the conversation while also keeping his eye on the desk.

WINSTON

Sorry. I was busy.

Dustin opens his mouth to say more but Winston interrupts.

WINSTON (CONT'D)

I actually have some work to do, so could you let me get to it?

DUSTIN

(angrily)

Yeah, man, whatever.

Winston walks past Dustin to the desk he was looking at, and Dustin walks into the break room with an agitated look on his face.

Winston sits at the desk, it has a picture of a mother and daughter beside an old computer as well as a small plant and some paperwork. Stuck to the side of the computer is a sticky note that gave the username and password of the account. Winston puts in the USB and enters the log in details and then he drags in the video and starts typing. Once he's done, he logs out of the computer and leaves the desk. He walks over to his own desk, takes out his phone and texts a thumbs up to Issac.

INT. LIVING ROOM

Issac is sitting on the sofa with Eliza watching the news when Issac receives the text, he shows it to Eliza and they high five.

The news station cuts out and their video begins to play live on TV.

VIDEO

Citizens of the United States of America, we are here to reveal the sins hidden behind MP Corporation, a company your president supports.

The video plays through explaining the shady business practises and the illegal activities the CEO and board of directors had a part in.

VIDEO (CONT'D)

We must unmask the evils behind this country. This has been Eden. Join us.

Finally the video cuts to black and the channel returns to the news team that are looking around confused. Suddenly, the show cuts to commercials.

Issac and Eliza look at the TV in awe and then Issac's phone buzzes with a message from Winston saying "Check Twitter". Both of them pull up their phones and there's already a bunch of tweets about it flooding in, most of them confused and some about the controversy. As more time passes, news articles are wrote about it and other news stations talk about it. The topic starts trending on multiple sites. An official investigation is opened up, both on Eden and on MP Corporations. When Winston comes home from work, he looks exhausted.

WINSTON

Work was freaking out over it, but I don't think they caught it was me.

ISSAC

It'll be fine. celebrate with us!

Issac hands Winston a drink and he takes it, and they drink together and celebrate their success.

All three of them hit their drinks together.

(enthusiastically)
